Inside her Brooklyn apartment, River (19) exists in quiet detachment. Her father’s controlling presence dictates the space, while her mother and sisters navigate around him with practiced compliance. When River attempts to leave the apartment, her father erupts. The assault is shown indirectly, through sound and interrupted images, refusing spectacle and placing the audience inside River’s perception. Her older sister Emma helps calm her down so River can go with her mother and sisters to wash clothes. It unfolds through motion: a car ride, passing lights, clouds, and the relentless spin of a washing machine, blurring time and consciousness.
