Juan Zapata is a Colombian writer and director currently based in the United States. He studied directing and screenwriting in Cuba (EICTV) from 2001 to 2003 and lived in Brazil for 12 years, where he directed 5 documentaries and his first feature film “Simone” (2013), which was commercially launched in 5 countries and received the Award for Best Cinematography at the Los Angeles Brazilian Film Festival (LABRIFF). In 2014, he was the Director of the Film Institute of the State of Rio Grande do Sul (IECINE). His films have participated in festivals such as Mar del Plata; San Francisco (FREMALINE); Cartagena; Tribeca (TCFF); Torino, Geneva FILMAR, Cartagena, Bogotá, as well as screened on Netflix, FOX, TERRA TV, Canal Brasil and other channels.
